Judie Cole at Loch Lomond Reservoir forwarded a decent trout report for the lake this week. "We are seeing stringers of three to four fish," she says. Cole adds that a good number of holdover fish were caught last week, in the 20-inch range. Remember that boat inspections are mandatory at Loch Lomond now and for the foreseeable future. In order to prevent infestation of Zebra Mussels, all boats must be clean and dry, and no less than five days from immersion in another body of water. The rules are strict, and are a result of Loch Lomond staff efforts to keep the lake open to outside boats. Please be patient with the short delays as you enter the park.
Steelhead season for our area ends after tomorrow. March 7 is the last day we can pursue these beautiful ocean-going trout in our local streams. It has been a very good season this year, according to Mark Dingler at The Angler's Choice Tackle Shop in Capitola. "I caught a 13-pounder this morning," he said on Wednesday. "Good water this year equaled good fishing," Dingler added. "Hundreds of fish were caught this year."
