High clouds came in overnight but we are still seeing the sun peek through now and again. The high temperature already topped out at 57 but generally drops down a couple degrees for the afternoon. The high clouds kept our low temperature from dropping below 20 which is very normal. The winds have not shifted to the west yet but have been predicted to do so. At this time the wind is still coming from the east. But, we are expecting west and southwest winds to blow up to 25 mph for the next couple of days.
Hopefully we will see some of the lake ice get pushed up to shore. The cracks/fissures in the ice sheets have been established for months and the ones we have been watching have gotten much wider and very obvious as they cross the lake in different directions.
We are still expecting a possibility of stormy weather and the percentage of possibility has increased to 50% from 30% yesterday. Highs are expected to drop into the low 40's and lows in the 20's. The clouds and a chance for precipitation appear to be staying with us into the weekend. We are hoping the lake will come up at least three feet this year, but that won't quite make it to last seasons high water mark. But, we hope that Mother Nature gives us a surprise before it's all over.
Papoose Creek started flowing over the weekend. It definitely came down fast to obliterate several tons of decomposed granite that was blocking its path on its way to the lake. It didn't look like the granite put up much resistance by the look of the deep cut channel it has left behind. The creek water is building up between the shoreline and the ice sheets that remain covering 98 percent of the lake. We are seeing more water along the shoreline that is mostly from the local snow melt draining into the lake as well as water from the seasonal tributaries that are currently flowing. But, the edges of the ice sheets are getting thinner in places, as seen near the shore at Stones Landing launch ramp.
I'll be out of town tomorrow, so hang in there we may see some changes by Wednesday!!
