Texas Fish Report

We finally received another trout stocking this past week. The trout were dumped at the main launch ramp. Anglers have been able to manage a decent amount of trout, but it has been surprisingly slow for after a stocking.

Power-baits in brighter colors and garlic scents have been doing the trick. Some catches have also come off a Kastmaster or small trout swimbait.

The Largemouth and Smallmouth bass have been making appearances in better numbers as of late. Most catches have been off a drop-shot, Carolina-rig, or Ned rig type set-up. Plastics mimicking any bait fish has been producing. A lot of reports have said that the bass are starting to move up shallower in around 20 feet of water.

The Striper bite has been slow for the most part with most anglers having luck using sardines, anchovies, and lug worms down deep. There have been a few bigger models caught on swimbaits, but that bite has been tough all season.

Catfish have been ending up on the end of angler’s hooks while they are soaking cut bait for stripers. If you want to better your odds, mackerel and chicken liver will suffice.

Bluegill have been tougher to locate at the upper lake, while the crappie has been biting decent lately. Small crappie jigs and wax/meal worms have been working for most.

The lower lagoon has also been picking up lately, with decent bass and crappie fishing being reported.
