Excellent Week of Trout Fishing

It was an excellent week of trout fishing with plenty of big trout being recorded. Ken V. of Laguna Niguel led the charge with his 11.60# rainbow caught on a Creme Crawler at Crappie Rock. Other notable catches included Ron Peat’s 11.10# and Jeff Hoffard’s 10.70#. This Wednesday we are stocking trout yet again. Oakvale Cove has been the hottest spot for trout fishing from shore and top water lures like kastmasters have been working well.

The long bass bite hiatus looks to be over. Small to medium sized bass (males mostly) have moved into the shallows in anticipation of the spawn, the first wave of which will probably correspond with Monday’s full moon. Largemouth bass respond well to crawdads, swimbaits, and dark colored plastics.

Catfish are being caught throughout the lake. Doug Jenkins of Carlsbad caught a 10.10# catfish on a nightcrawler in Boat Dock Cove Lake Wohlford cats prefer cut mackerel, or chicken liver.

Solid Week For Trout Fishing

It was a solid week for trout fishing with Senior Shoreline seeing a brief flurry of activity. Miguel Orozco of Vista had the biggest trout of the week with a 12.00# caught on green powerbait west of Senior Shoreline. Trout Bite is Gaining Steam

The trout bite is gaining steam as we head into the third consecutive weekly plant. The late bite has proved better than the early bite for most of the week. The trout are hitting jigs, powerbait, and inflated night-crawlers. Denny Vath of Escondido had big fish of the week honors with his 7.90# rainbow caught on green powerbait near Crappie Rock.
