Surface temp. @ 35.6 degrees
Clarity: about 6 ft.
Currently: Snowing. 10" in the last 36hrs. Today up to 12" prdicted.
Lake Levels are low, watch for hazards.
Winter conditions are prevailing at Lake Almanor, And its about time.
Storm pulses have been coming through this past week and more snow is in the forecast.
Lake Almanor is finally beginning to rise.
Canyon Dam public boat ramp is in great condition, with now about 20 ft. of useable dock, also the road in has been plowed.
However, As I write this its snowing, and will be for the next several days, making most ramps unuseable for awhile.
Theres very little ice on the lake as of right now, and that can change, but this time last year we were ice fishing Rec. 2 and had 11" of ice.
Compared to about 1" now.
It would appear to me that we could be fishing earlier in March than in the past, simply because theres less ice to melt this spring.
Who needs a boat? The best fishing really has been comming right from the bank anyway. The Hamelton Branch has been the spot to be all week. Both chutes are running at the power house, the Branch is running clear water, and Rainbows and Browns are in there thick.
Right now this area has the best inflows and the fish are really appear to be stacked in there. .. Roe down deep at the power house has been producing the bigger fish. Nightcrawlers and a cheese marshmellow were getting fish, even silver Kastmasters got one fellow three Rainbows all over 2.5 lbs. Over all its a pretty good bite going on right now and will be as long as the runoff remains clear.
Launch conditions around Lake Almanor.
Canyon Dam public ramp is your best bet.
