Texas Fish Report

It's starting to get a little more fishy in Mazatlan, and while the dorado counts are down a little, the billfish count is up over 50% and the yellowfin tuna are making a good showing with big fish that ranged to 140 lbs. Overall counts for 22 offshore fishing days reflected 2 blue marlin, (225 pounders) 11 sailfish, 30 dorado and 22 yellowfin tuna, (a number of the bigger tuna were lost in the battle). The inshore super pangas were still focusing on the shark buoys and the dorado counts and landed 58 dorado for a total of 5 fishing days.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy days with temps from 77 nights to 91 daytime highs and humid.

Sea Conditions: Excellent temps, 87-88 and stable, with good clean water and calm throughout the area.

Best Fishing Area: According to Geronimo Cevallos, the bigger yellowfin tuna, to 120 lbs., were at the 35 mile mark and running with the porpoise and fairly easy to get to bite on live skipjack and small jacks.

Best Bait/Lure: The blue marlin were taken on skipjack baits, slow trolled around the buoys. Tuna, especially the bigger ones, were taken on live skipjack and small jacks. Overall, live bait was best for all the fish this week.
