63 lb. Blue Catfish Caught

On Sunday Elliot Berquist of Escondido further cemented his spot atop the leader-board by beating his own lake record catfish with a 63.60# blue catfish which he caught and released using cut- bonita at the west buoy line. Note: Due to a clerical error an earlier report listed the Catfish’s weight as four pounds heavier than it actually was. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused. Lake Wohlford cats are most frequently caught using chicken liver, shrimp, or cut mackerel.

Mostly small to medium sized bass being caught. Largemouth Bass can be found lingering around structure. The bass respond well to dark colored plastics, crawdads, and crank-baits.

Crappie fishing has been slow. Crappie prefer the cover of shade and are most often caught using finger jigs or live golden shiners.

The park remains closed to visitors and fisherman alike during the weekdays. We are still open on weekends. We will re-open for weekday fishing starting Monday December 13th.Trout season begins Saturday December 11th. Catfish are being caught throughout the lake. We will re-open for weekday fishing at the start of trout season, usually the second Saturday in December. Catfish can be found throughout the lake, but are most prevalent at either end.
