Improved success this week, as Paul Clouse and Al Hurwitz trolled Los Vaqueros Reservoir (LVR) on 1/23/25. We were mainly flat line trolling and hooked up with some nice fish. In Cox Cove in the early morning, Paul caught a beautiful 4.10 pound 22 inch Striped Bass (pictured here). Al then caught a 2 pound Mt. Lassen Rainbow later that morning, also in Cox Cove. We released these 2 fish in very good condition. Then, close to noon, Paul hooked up with a very nice 3.8 pound 20 inch Mt. Lassen Rainbow in Howden Cove (also pictured). All of the fish were caught flat-lining Jointed Rapalas (with scent applied) some 8-10 feet below the surface. The conditions were excellent, with a gentle breeze, beautiful weather, and extremely clear water with a surface temperature ranging from 53.5-54.5 degrees.
We think the improved trolling conditions are mainly due to the excellent water clarity and stable weather conditions. Hopefully, this pattern will continue (although we do desperately need rain).
As always, we appreciate all the great help from the LVR staff! See you all soon.
Best regards,
Paul Clouse, Lafayette
Dr. Al Hurwitz, Saratoga
