The trout are biting well at the east end of the lake. spoons, inflated nightcrawlers, and orange powerbait have been what’s working.
Largemouth bass can be found lurking around structure. The bass spawn in waves, some of the bass are currently on beds, while others have already spawned, and still others are holding off possibly for the next full moon should the conditions (water temp, lake level) remain favorable. The bass pursue swimbaits, crawdads, and dark colored plastics.
Catfish can be found throughout the lake but are particularly active at either end. The first catfish plant will occur mid- May. Lake Wohlford cats prefer mackerel, shrimp, or chicken liver.
Crappie can be found at the crappie float pre-dawn. Crappie are most often caught using live golden shiners or crappie jigs. As the warmer weather returns look for the crappie to move in closer to shore for the spawn.
