Hyatt is basically full. Like Howard Prairie, large areas of the reservoir pool will be watered again for the first time in several years, which will provide a jump in reservoir productivity and food production. New this week, both the Cascade BLM boat ramp and the Mountain View ramp are open and available for use.
Hyatt is producing catches of legal-sized trout and holdovers to 20 inches. A wide variety of gear can be effective at Hyatt, and trolling flies and lures on light line can produce early season. Powerbait and Pautzke eggs work well for anglers still fishing with bait. A quick check of mid-day bank anglers near the dam on Monday showed mixed success, with a few trout (one at 18") caught on green powerbait.
Anglers are reporting catches of largemouth bass in good condition. A green senko was producing some bass at the dam on Monday. Some black crappie and brown bullhead have also reportedly been caught.
There is a Free Family Fishing event from 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. Information: 541-618-2306 https://www.blm.gov/or/districts/medford/files/freefish08.pdf
Remember to remove all vegetation from gear, boots and boats before leaving Hyatt.
