Texas Fish Report

How about some catfish news! Local anglers fishing from shore along the Colorado River, near the Avi Casino on the Arizona side, have been using anchovies for bait. John Andrews and his wife landed a beautiful channel catfish that weighed 10.86 pounds and measured 28 ¾ inches. The channel cat is our most common catfish in the area.

Fun story: ever wonder if we’re named after a cow or a fish? If you’ve seen Bullhead Rock and know the story, you’d understand. Back in the day, people would fish there for dinner—usually bullhead catfish. The rock has a great hole where those catfish love to hang out. Short story, but true!

We’re also seeing some striper action along our shores and up on Lake Mohave. Trolling has been producing the best results—find the boil and you’ll likely catch some nice-size stripers.

Don’t forget, the Fishing with First Responders event is about to take place and it’s looking great! There will be gifts for the young anglers, plus a free raffle with chances to win fishing poles, tackle boxes, and even a bicycle or two. You can also enjoy vintage autos, a martial arts show, and a meet-and-greet with Moose Lodge 1860 President Gary Larson, who will have his El Camino on display.
