Texas Fish Report

While the numbers of billfish did not improve for Mazatlan this past week, we did land a couple of sailfish for the first time in several weeks and perhaps, just perhaps, this is an indicator for a change with the offshore fishing. One thing for sure, it reflects good water temps for the area as sailfish like the warmer waters. We also had a few yellowfin tuna opportunities with fish that were running with the porpoise. Not a good bite, but still, a change on the plus side. The overall offshore fish counts for 24 days reflected 1 striper released, 2 sailfish released, 1 mako shark, 10 dorado, 10 yellowffin tuna and 8 toro, (jack cravelle). The inshore fishing remained best, by far, and reflected 54 pargo, 55 red snapper, 11 roosterfish released, 99 cochitos, 61 mojarres and 10 roncachos for 10 outings that kept the anglers busy with the catching.

Mazatlan Climate: A little rain this morning that followed partly cloudy days for most of the week, with temps from 55 nights to 83 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: Overall, the offshore conditions remained very good, including very good clarity, small swell conditions and stable temps from 77 inshore and rising to 78 offshore.

Best Bait/Lure: The billfis, dorado and mako shark were all taken on rigged baits. Tuna on the feathers with no particular color favored.

Best Fishing Area: There was no offshore area that provided any concentration of fish.
