Texas Fish Report

Some cloudy, rainy days that included a single port closure day on Tuesday made the fishing a little more difficult this past week for the Mazatlan offshore sportfishing efforts. The "Aries V", skippered by Captain Memo Rodriguez, landed the only blue marlin for the week, a smaller fish that was estimated at about 200 lbs. The overall offshore catches for 9 days fished reflect the 1 blue marlin, 4 sailfish and 8 yellowfin tuna. The inshore super pangas, reporting in for 6 days fished, reflected 25 dorado, 12 corvina, 11 pargo, 30 cochitos, 1 mojarre, 1 toro and 4 yellowfin tuna.

Mazatlan Climate: Mostly cloudy with scattered thunder storms and temps from 78 nights to 90 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions: After the port closure day on Tuesday, the water calmed and the temps remained stable in the 84-85 degree zone. Greenish water expanded to nearly 24 miles offshore and then cleaned sufficiently to offer billfish opportunities.

Best Lure/Bait: Sailfish were all taken on rigged trolling baits. Tuna on the feathers as the fish were running with the porpoise.

Best Fishing Area: None reported as there was no concentration of fish found this past week.

Bait Supply: Plentiful for both, rigged and live bait.
