Irvine Lake lunker catfish stocking

Today [Friday May 31] a big stocking load of monster blue catfish weighing from 20 to over 40 pounds was stocked into Irvine Lake, a week ahead of the original schedule. The huge fish were overcrowding the fish farm where they originated, and had to be moved right now! Anglers are reminded that release is mandatory for all catfish and sturgeon over 20 pounds. Anglers releasing fish over 20 pounds will receive a free admission pass to the lake, and anglers releasing fish over 50 pounds will receive a free admission pass and motor boat rental certificate. Fish must be brought TO THE BOAT DOCK [not the Pro Shop] for verification by lake staff.

Summer's proximity and warming water temperatures are pushing Irvine Lake's trout population deeper, according to Tony Martinez at the Irvine Lake Pro Shop. "The trollers using leadcore are doing well", observed Martinez. "The regulars are still catching their trout limits on bait, but it's a little slow for others."
