Texas Fish Report
Wild turkey season
by Steve Carson
3-17-2011
Local hunters are expecting an excellent wild turkey hunting season March 26 through May 1, noted Dave Ebright at Chico Sportsmans Den. "There are definitely a lot of birds in the area", observed Ebright. "The local wild turkey mix has a lot of jakes, two year olds, and mature gobblers; the population has done very well.
"We expect that hunters on the opener should do very well if the weather co-operates. The current cold weather means that the birds will be staying on the roost, and it will be a little longer before they start to pair off. " Ebright continued, "Don't forget that turkey hunters are required to have a current California Hunting License and an Upland Game Bird Stamp."
