According to Manager Geronimo Cevallos, the fishing remains very good in the Mazatlan area, both inshore and offshore. He reported the pargo & snapper bite has been exceptional just 4-5 miles from the Marina El Cid, fishing in 140-feet of water at the Marmol Banks, using Rapala X Rap 30s. The fish are chasing sardines and the boats that get on them typically winding up with 6-7 quality fish in the 15-30 lb. ranges. The inshore fishing for the past week for a total of 8 days reflected 87 pargo & snappers, 2 corvina, 9 jack cravelle, (aka toros) 25 barracuda and 15 miscellaneous bottom fish. The offshore cruisers, reporting for a total of 8 days fished, reflected 6 stripers, 1 dorado and 2 mako shark. The offshore boats are starting to see more & more billfish and now, with the warming water temps, Geronimo thinks the fish will become more active and willing to bite in the near future, especially with the amount of bait in the area.

Mazatlan Climate:
Mostly sunny, clear and warm days with temps ranging from 51 nights to 85 daytime highs.

Sea Conditions:
Improved water temps inshore to offshore. Inshore at 72 degrees and rising to 79 degrees by 12 miles or so.

Best Fishing Area:
Most of the offshore trips have been fishing the area of 20 miles or so out to the south of the Marina El Cid.

Best Lure/Bait:
The offshore fish have been taking the rigged baits with regularity over the artificials.

Bait Supply:
Excellent for both, live bait and fresh rigged baits

While the inshore fishing continued to lead the Cabo fishing action, a few boats ventured offshore and managed to entice a few stripers to bite, reflecting a much improved catching week for the fleets. It was another week of widely varied water temperatures that warmed considerably from the previous week and seemed to encourage the bite on both sides of the peninsula. With exception to a single marlin taken aboard the Gaviota...... Read More
