Catfish fishing is good and should improve with the final plant on Thursday. The best baits for catfish are cut mackerel or chicken liver and the East end of the lake is probably the best location. Stop by the ranger station for a dough-bait recipe that works well for both catfish and carp.
The bass fishing has been fair with the best results coming in the early mornings and late afternoons. Shad raps, crawdads, and dark colored plastics are all good baits. Bass can most often be found lingering around submerged rock piles.
Each morning there is a small window of opportunity for catching crappie sometimes it lasts 30 minutes other times several hours. Jigs appear to be outperforming the live bait. Live golden shiners and crappie jigs work best with the crappie. Crappie prefer the cover of shade or the protection of submerged trees in which to hide.
Lake Wohlford will be closed weekdays beginning September 6th and stay that way until December with the opening of Trout season. The lake will remain open on weekends throughout.
