Izorline Trip aboard the Red Rooster III visits Cedros & Cowtown
Andy Cates docked Red Rooster III at H&M Landing December 19 following the annual Izorline 10-day trip with 29 passengers, including chartermaster Norm Fujimoto of Izorline. "We fished at Cedros and the 13 Spot, for near-limits of tuna and yellowtail," Cates said. "The lower banks were tough, but on the second day there we chased fish with porpoise for 47 yellowfin around 30 to 80 pounds. The next day the water rolled over and went green but the dorado didn't care. We fished one day on the Spud for a single bite from one 240-pounder."
Joe Dubler of Palmer AK got the big boy, which came in at 248.8 pounds on the H&M scales. He got it with a mackerel bait on a double hook rig under a balloon. He said he used 80-pound Izorline spectra on an Avet 4/0 and a Calstar 770 XXXH rod.
Ross Wojoe of Mar Vista won second place for a 78.8-pounder. David Reed of Ontario took third for a 68.8-pound yellowfin and TJ Lee of Huntington Beach got fourth place for a 66.9-pound tuna. Nick LaFarga of Wilmington stood in with the lineup group with his best-of-the-trip 46.8-pound yellowtail.
