Water Temperature: At surface 61.70 f., 10.30 D.O. @ 15' 60.08 f., 4.06 D.O.
Water Level: Low level, private water craft are currently banned.
In order to protect Wohlford from invasive exotic Quagga mussels, there is still a temporary ban on private water craft and equipment that could have been exposed to mussels. Restricted equipment includes private boats, canoes, kayaks, float tubes, trolling motors, fish finders, anchors, and other equipment that contacts the water.
Lake Wohlford is offering $20 all day motorboats to seniors on Tuesdays and to active military on the first and third Saturdays of each month.
The trout fishing has yet to respond to Wednesday's plant. Look for the bite to improve over the holiday weekend. Dave Brach of Oceanside can claim the biggest trout of the month, so far, with his 9.40# rainbow caught on green powerbait near the West Buoys. Gary Greetis of Valley Center caught a 5.65# trout on an inflated nightcrawler in Boat Dock Cove. Finally, Obediah Barnett weighed in a 4.60# trout caught on a nightcrawler in Oakvale. The trout are pretty spread out throughout the lake right now and should remain that way until the next plant in late April. Powerbait (greens and yellows), salmon eggs, and inflated nightcrawlers have been the preferred baits.
The bass have moved in tight and are feeding heavily on the shad which have been abundant in the shallows. Mike Bouds of Escondido caught and released a 9.50# Bass caught at the East Buoys on crankbait. Rod Kiar of Escondido caught and released and 8.65# Bass on a pumpkin colored senko worm at the South Shore Rock Pile. Bass can be found around structure and bite most often in the early mornings and late afternoons.
