Just a update in case you didn't catch the fish count for today(http://www.newportlanding.com/fishcount.htm)
the Patriot had pretty fun fishing again today fishing Catalina Island with 5 large yellowtail to 30 pounds and at least another 8 to 10 yellowtail lost as these big fish are hard to land. They also had 6 barracuda, 24 bonito, and 2 calico bass while fishing the Island. The nice thing about fishing Catalina Island is you can also look for kelp paddies and tuna and they ended up with 5 yellowfin tuna averaging about 25 pounds and lost another 6 to 7 tuna. Only 21 anglers on the Patriot today with really fun fishing. The Patriot has a standard open party 3/4 day trip for Thursday (August 28) with only about 19 reservations and then limited load extended 3/4 day trips for Friday, Saturday, and Monday. Limited to only 35 anglers at $95 and they depart at 6am returning at 6pm. These trips should be fun and very comfortable with the limited loads. Currently there is spots open for all trips with the exception of Saturday's trip.
Also this Sunday (August 31) we will have another one of our Catalina Island Whale Watching Day Trips. Departs at 9am returns around 6pm and includes a 2 hour drop off at Avalon. We have been seeing lots of blue whales which is our largest whale at over 80 feet and dolphin by the thousands along with striped marlin, fin back whales, and all sorts of warm water creatures. This trip is on our brand new whale watching boat the Ocean Explorer. The cost is $69 for Adults and $64 for Juniors/Seniors. Currently about 23 reservations. For more information or to check out the Ocean Explorer go to http://www.newportwhales.com/ Reservations are required for this trip.
