Last week we had three trout plants back to back, Monday-Wednesday. We had 3,000 lbs. stocked each day from Calaveres trout farm. We are expecting two more this week on Tuesday and Wednesday. All trout have been of decent size all over 1lb. With some 2-3 lbers in the mix. Green and garlic powerbaits have been working well, and the good ol’ trusty Kastmaster. The swimbait bite has been slow overall and hopefully the trout plants will kick that into gear.
The stripers have slowed a little for the bait bite and anglers have been coming back with a few fish each on their stingers. There have been some good-sized stripers caught in the mix. Sardines anchovies and lug worms have been working best.
The largemouth and small mouth bite has also slowed down a little from how it was the last couple of weeks. There have been a lot of good numbers caught and some good kickers in the mix. There have been mixed reports of catches coming shallow in about 5-10 feet of water, and some bites coming a little deeper too. A lot of bass fry has been see up shallow along brush and structure lately. Robo worms, senkos and many other drop shots and fly-lines baits have been boring well. A few angler reported some top water and jerk bait action first thing in the morning.
The catfish bite slowly continues to improve, with mackerel and chicken liver being your best bet. Bluegill and crappie are starting to make more of an appearance with wax/meal worms and crappie jigs being the best bait to use.
