We have finally received all 5 trout stocking these past 2 weeks and there are a lot of trout still left to be caught. Overall we had 15,000 to 17,000 lbs. of Rainbow Trout planted from Calaveras Trout Farm. Most fish are in the 1-2 lbs. range with some bigger ones in the mix. Garlic and green / chartreuse powerbaits, kastmasters and little trout jigs have been working best.
The stripers have picked up again and anglers have been coming back with decent stringers. They have been good sized models too. Sardines, anchovies and lug worms are working best.
The largemouth and smallmouth bite has also been picking up there has been a lot of good numbers caught with some good kickers in the mix. There have been mixed reports of catches coming shallow in about 5-10 feet of water where there are bass fry hanging around, and some bites coming a little deeper too. Roboworms, senkos and many other drop shots and fly-lines bait have been working well. A few anglers reported some top water and jerk baits action too.
The catfish bite slowly continues to improve, with mackerel and chicken liver being you best bet.
Bluegill and crappie are starting to make more of an appearance with wax worms, meal worms and crappie jigs being the best baits to use. The swimbait bite remains slow, hopefully these trout will help pick that bit up.
