Fall is typically the time when the larger catfish are being caught and this year is proving no exception. Saturday, Alfredo Lopez of Escondido, who won the whopper contest last month with a twenty pounder, out did himself with a 33.70# whopper he caught on cut mackerel on Senior Shoreline. Drop by the ranger station to pick up a dough-bait recipe that works well for both catfish and carp.

Largemouth Bass can be found working the reed beds, or lurking around structure. They respond well to crawdads, frogs, and dark colored plastics.

Crappie prefer the cover of shade and bite best before the sun comes up. They are most often caught on finger jigs or live golden shiners.
