Winter Greetings from Lake Cuyamaca: Even with unstable weather conditions last week the trout bite remained steady for the bait dunkers. Success has been with night crawler/power bait combo. Trolling with Rapalas and Panther Martins providing some action. Use scent for the advantage due to stained water conditions.
!!!! WINTER HOURS STARTING DECEMBER 1, 2008-March 1, 2009 !!!!
Monday-Friday 8 AM-4:30 PM Saturday, Sunday 6 AM - 5PM
Trout Bait: 12-16"inch leader, inflated night crawler smeared with scent, or Power Bait fished off the bottom. (Pautzkes Krill gel or liquid Krill scent)
Best Trout Lures: Orange Rapala, Gold Panther Martin. Use scent (Krill gel works best)
Best Trout Spots: Lone Pine, Dike, Chambers Park, Trolling entire lake.
Notable: John Arena, Ramona, 4lbs Rainbow, rainbow power bait/ night crawler/krill combo, secret spot. Denny Shadnoan, San Diego, 3lbs 12 oz Rainbow, night crawler, Handicap pier, Dike. www.lakecuyamaca.org
Fly Fishing: Try a Matuka or a Wolly Bugger worked slow.
Nature Walk: The self guided walk is 3 1/2 miles around the lake. The trail is open for daily use.
Free Fishing Class Saturday at 10:AM: Ranger Willard will teach cold water Trout tactics ..
Prognosis:!! Weather conditions for the next week could slow down the bite. The inventory of trout in the lake is in the anglers favor. Use bait with scent close to shore, give it some slow action every few minutes. Trolling with Rapala's or Panther Martins (use scent) will provide some results with patience. Water temp 44-48 deg.
Water Fowl results: (4) Mallard, (7) Widgeon, (1) Spoonbill, (1) Ruddy
THE DECONTAMINATION WASH DOWN IS REQUIRED for all PRIVATE VESSELS BEFORE LAUNCH. A fee is charged. (boats, motors, float tubs, waders) More details under boat wash down.
