Texas Fish Report

This is a great example of a successful catch-and-release fishing experience!

Local angler Matt Felder was fishing from shore when he landed an impressive 43-inch striped bass. He had been targeting smaller stripers with anchovies and was catching fish in the 1- to 3-pound range. As I've mentioned before, fishing with anchovies usually produces the smaller stripers, which make excellent table fare. Every now and then, though, anchovies can also produce a trophy fish like this one.

Matt got a little lucky, landed an incredible catch, snapped a quick photo, and released the fish so another angler can enjoy the opportunity to catch it again. It's also a good reminder to always tie a solid knot and set your drag properly—you never know when that unexpected trophy will bite.

I'm also getting good reports from Lake Mohave. Evening trolling is starting to produce some quality fish. Anglers are having success using white or light green bucktail jigs, as well as white or bone-colored swimbaits. Trout-pattern lures are also proving effective, both on Lake Mohave and below Davis Dam on the Colorado River.
