Greetings from Lake Cuyamaca. The junior waterfowl hunt will be on Saturday, February 5th. There are six hunters this year and we wish them good weather and happy hunting. Starting February 6, the tackle shop is open everyday, weekends at 6am and weekdays at 8am. The weather has been a real challenge for the anglers. 45 mph winds and freezing weather has kept fishermen away. Looks like this coming week will be very Spring like so we can expect the fishing to be very good. Expect a load of fish from DFG . The Bald Eagles have come back for the winter and are always exciting to watch. One Notable Catch was Marshall Smith of San Diego, age 14 caught a 2.4 pound trout fishing at the "willows" He was using Peach Power Bait. Don't forget Lake Cuyamaca has a geocache trail that should provide fun and outdoor activity for the whole family. The trail is 1.96 miles and takes about an hour. The Ranger at the Tackle Shop will give you directions for the Trail Head. The free fishing class is held every Saturday at 10:00 am at the Launch Ramp. Please tell the tackle shop ranger that you want to attend. The decontamination wash down is required for all private vessels and motors before a launch. Float tubes and waders must be washed down before using the lake. There is a fee for the wash down.
