Texas Fish Report

The lake is near full, trout are still being stocked and the weather has been great, so the reason why the striper bite has been so slow is becoming one of a mystery. With the striper missing in action, the main attraction has been the trout fishing. For shore fishermen, Ramp #2 and the point near the ramp have been the hot spot for the stocker trout. Powerbait remains one of the top baits with fishermen reporting the best results from rainbow and chartreuse colors. Nightcrawlers have also been one of the better baits and this past week fishermen report that salmon eggs have begun to peek the interest of the trout. From boat the East End has been a good option as some hold-over trout up to 4 pounds have been caught, and while powerbait and nightcrawlers are working in the East End, kastmasters and roostertails have been picking up some of the bigger trout. Bass action remained strong for those that targeted them this past week. Reports are that the bass are moving a little shallower and many were caught around 15 feet of water in the East End and along the South Shore. Some are already calling an early spawn, but the fairly resent water level rise and warmer weather is the more likely explanation. Drop shot dark plastics still seem to be the ticket for the largemouth. For those trying for the striper, best advise is bait fishing in the waters near the dam and inlet using chicken liver or anchovies, and you may even pick up a cat or two. Good luck to you all!
