Texas Fish Report

It was another one of those mixed weeks where one day showed signs of improvement and then the next day nothing. So over all the action has remained some what slow. Most of the fishermen are coming and looking for stripers, which simply are hard to get right now. The past week has spawned reports of improved striper bite, but the number landed still remains low. Bait fishing chicken liver near the dam is the best bet for most fishermen, however those hunting the bigger lunker may be tempted to throw some lures as hook ups were reported just they broke the line or got off. Trout slowed as well this past week, but another fresh stock coming up this week should have the rainbows biting this coming weekend. Powerbait and worms still seem to be the bait of choice for the trout. From shore Ramp #2 remains the best option, but if you are in a boat the East End is the better spot to go, at least until the new stock. Catfish are starting to show up in a few more numbers as well, most by boat although a few have been reported coming in near Ramp #2. Most of the cats are caught by mistake by people fishing chicken liver for the striper or Powerbait for the trout. Bass fishing dropped slightly along with the temperature and most fishermen reported getting their bass in around 20 to 25 feet of water. Drop shot dark plastics still your best bet, although some luck with dark plastics with bright tails are being reported to work as well.
