Fishing at Lake Skinner has been up and down this week

Fishing has been up and down this past week at Skinner. Overall fishing is good with some numbers of stripers, bass, catfish and bluegill being reported. Stripers are hitting best near the dam buoy line off chicken liver and anchovies. Catfish are hitting there as well along the South Shore and the East End. Mackerel and chicken liver have been the best bait for the cats, however anchovies have also been working. Bass are hit and miss but are hitting best along the South Shore and the East End. Dark plastics have been the best, but some early morning top water action has been reported along the South Shore. Bluegill are moving back into the coves and are hitting meal worms and blown up worms off the bottom.

Overall fishing improved over the last week. The bass bite has picked up and several are coming in showing signs of already having spawned. South Shore and East End are the best locations for bass. Most are hitting dark plastics fished alone the reeds in the morning and dropping down deeper as the day rows later. Bluegill have also begun to pick up as well. The water level has continued to go up and down, and the drastic changes in weather have paid their toll on fishing at Lake Skinner. These factors have made fishing really "unpredictable" according to several complaining fishermen this past week. While fishing may not have been "red hot", some days saw good action.
